WordPress Spring Clean

18 June 2008 by Tim 6 Comments

I have just removed over 230,000 spam comments from this blog’s database. All this spam clutters the database making it physically much larger, which can be an issue if you need to move it or back it up (much bigger back up file and potentially much more difficult to restore).

As it happens, no. TWB at least, looks as if it is clean – are you using some plugin which already does this?

Yes, that blocks comments before they arrive in the database. Jax didn’t like it…

I didn’t like it because it marked as spam comments from ppl I knew and that could have an effect on any site using akismet. Plus I got no joy from trying to talk with the developers, they consider themselves far too important to speak to a single blog owner.
