Next in my series of occasional rants:
Another gem from the Beeb tells how “More than a quarter of state school pupils in England are receiving private tuition lessons, say researchers.”
I liked this bit:
“..And the widespread use of private tuition did not seem to be linked to any feeling that schools were not doing their job.”
What the hell do these people think the job of a school is then? Frankly, I must admit I am not quite sure either, I mean, I know that it is a parents job to ensure that their child receives an education appropriate etc… my presumption would be that they are sending their children to school in order that the school can discharge that legal duty for them. No?
…but it seems school is not a way to achieve that?
Oh yeah, just occurred to me. The stats mean that 27%+ of children are being educated otherwise. Not full time otherwise, but otherwise nevertheless.
I’ve added you a category now, so can you list your posts in that as well? Ta.
I’VE got my own category! Coo!
I noticed that! I’m still wondering if I can have a tworedboots wordpress blog (so that I can have trendy categories too, obviously) with my hosting – is it possible? If so, point me in the right direction … anything to spend more time on the pc instead of working …
Priceless 😀
These days school is viewed as cheap childcare ;0)
Hi Jax, thanks for the pointers! Have a laugh and see what I’ve done tinkering now (rofl)! I’m working on finding out the difference between and
, oh and- ! I gather it’s all to do with programming tabs. if it gets too mad I’ll just copy your muddlepuddle text and do the undo edits option … and start again! It’s a bit like being a kid again and dismantling everything in the house (hopefully I’ll remember how to put it all back together!)
Cheers.
Now I’ll go and read the above post that I’m supposed to be commenting on!

It’s well recognized by sociologists, at least, that compulsory education’s official remit (learning to read, write and think) is only a thin veneer for it’s main purpose – socialization! I think Marx said that religion is the opium of the people, but I think he’d be more accurate now-a-days to say that education is the opium of the people!
Ahhh! I’ve done it now!
Sal!
Wishing you’d gotten to see what a mess I made of my blog before I sorted it!!!! I’ve always loved learning languages!!!
