As recommended by the inestimable Chris, I now have a new phone, or I will have shortly, when DHL get round to me.
I have moved from Virgin to o2, This is because, having bought a phone they advertised as having an email client, I found out that email is not part of their service at the moment. Also, I think their call centre systems are very inflexible, the people are nice but they have no room for manoeuvre at all. But the phone service was excellent. Previously I was on Vodafone and got no signal at home at all whereas Virgin was always available, pretty much anywhere.
Anyway, I had four months left on the contract and they have agreed to cancel that and release my number.
So, thanks to Big watering my phone I now have a better phone and will save about £11 per month.
OMG, I didn’t know they did that phone fore free at 19gbp….I had a play with Ady’s (and his phone) and it is a very impressive piece of kit.
Yeah he said you loved it 😉
I can’t understand how the deal works – they will sell you a handset for £300, but you can have one if you promise to pay them 12 * £19 = £228 and they will include calls and texts… doesn’t add up, does it.
No….I don’t think it’s a mis-price but then again when you look at some of the third-party providers (who tend to be pretty competitive) their prices are much much worse. To get the handset free you have to sign to an 18 month contract at 30 quid a month…..the figures make much more sense on that basis. The handset is 80 quid on the nearest comparable tarrif direct from Orange so I reckon it is an excellent deal.
Off to check when current contract ends 😉
I didn’t think it was a mis-price, but it really does seem like a terrific deal.
Next question:
a) Is this a good idea?
Sony Memory Stick Micro 512mb
£18.46 ex vat

b) Is this a good idea?
DabsValue 53-in-1 External USB2.0 Reader
£8.94 ex vat (we seem to be collecting a huge array of cards in different formats)

I must admit I think it is a bit cheap of o2 to send the phone without the standard issue 64MB memory stick. I would have wanted to upgrade anyway, but it would have been nice to have.
Yeah , but how mcuh does the phone cost them to buy? And then I suspect in there is some factor for customer inertia.
53-in-1? I think that’s stretching ‘card types’ a bit…. But it’s a reaonbly priced card reader, what more is there to say?
