Unaccustomed as I am….

16 March 2006 by Tim

Our MP’s most recent speech in parliament:

“Oh!”

I have been thinking of getting a personalised number plate, TAN 1 is available for a breathtaking £36795 or TM 8 for £30795, but the news this week suggests to me that I could be missing a trick and there might be better ‘personalisation’ purchases available. So I wrote to my MP.

FOR THE ATTENTION OF:

Natascha Engel MP

North East Derbyshire

Thursday 16 March 2006

Dear Natascha Engel,

I have been following the news with interest over the last week, in particular the disclosure that anyone who lends a million pounds to the Labour Party gets a peerage in return from the Leader.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a million pounds to lend the Leader, but if you could let me have a copy of the tariff, perhaps I could chose some honour more suited to my budget.

I would be grateful if you could get back to me quickly on this, as it would be nice to have the deal done before the the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill becomes law and your Leader abolishes parliament.

Yours sincerely,

Tim (surname removed from blog)

You got a letter from her today – or rather a Mr you did at your address!! Did you find it on the table?

How about “Tim, Lord of England”?
Your MP’s little outburst was beautifully riposted by Paul Beresford, I thought.

Lord of England. Sounds expensive. Tim, High Aardvark of Pidley Fen is probably nearer my price.

We own a piece of land not far from there. For a reasonable price you could be Warlock of Warboys too ๐Ÿ˜‰

I quite like the look of warboys – though actually have only travelled trhough or been to minimart there! Think I would choose to be Rapscallion of Ramsey! [Seneschal of Somersham for me though?]

But could you cope with all the misspelt mail?

Helen, Warboys is worth a visit to just for Steward’s – a marvellous hardware store where you can buy nails/screws by the ounce! My girls used to love mooching around there, you never knew what treasures you would find! Assuming it’s still there of course.
Dh used to work for Ovel’s of Somersham many moons ago. *Sigh* we must go visit the rellies soon and remind ourselves what the Fens are like!

A hardware store which doesn’t sell packets of stuff (no. always one less than you need, so you have to buy two)!
    I love hardware stores.
Are you a Fen native, Tech?

No I’m a Yorkshire lass, but DH and girls are carrot crunchers ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am sure they won’t hold it against you. ๐Ÿ™‚
Me.. born in Ely, lived in Stretham until I was six and we moved to Suffolk. I still have lots of relatives in the area.

Very odd to tell the truth, I am still pondering whether to post it, since I think there may be more said in it than she intended, or less, or something.
